Alice Fairfax Lucy says it was William Camden who conducted the funeral of Thomas Lucy 1 in 1600 He was not ordained so I suspect she means that he organized the proceedings as the preacher was Mr Hill, the parson at Hampton Lucy. The funeral was attended by a number of Heralds – the Windsor Herald who carried Lucy’s helmet, the Lancaster Herald carried the Sword and Shield and the most senior Herald, William Camden – who held the position of the Clarenceaux King at Arms – a post which still exists . When Alice says he conducted the funeral I suspect she means he organized the pageantry. So this was not a low key funeral.
