Wouldn’t it be amazing if there was a book that chronicled the life of Queen Elizabeth. Well there was; and Charlecote has a copy. This is the original 17Century binding.

The annals of English and Irish affairs in the reign of Elizabeth. By William Camden published 1615 although the Charlecote copy is known simply as Elizabetha.. Camden started work on it in 1607 at the suggestion of Lord Burghley. Each year was given a separate entry. Although it is in Latin a translation is available on-line. The English edition was first published in 1635 but not purchased by the Lucy family.
I understood that Camden Town and the Royal borough of Camden were named after William Camden. However Jo Wilding of the Shakespeare birthplace Trust tells me that although William Camden did have a house there at one time, Camden Town is actually named after Charles Pratt the Ist Earl of Camden who took his title from his house, Camden Place, in Kent.
