Wonderful anachronism! Tablets were fine and did the job. Remember Moses brought down the 10 commandments inscribed on stone tablets, and, fortunately for us, although fragile, clay tablets were well preserved (unless the rivers flooded!), but they were not handy to prepare, store or use. It was not a quick way of making a record. For this you need paper.
