How language changes and evolves!

The library has a great many theological books which we have otherwise ignored.
George Herbert was born in Montgomery. He went to Cambridge university with the intention of becoming a priest but he was such a good Orator he attracted the attention of King James the First and went to Court and briefly served in Parliament. After King James died he took Holy Orders and became rector of Fugglestone St Peter with Bemerton in Wiltshire – a small parish church. He stayed there for the rest of his life, which was not long as he died of TB aged 39.. He wrote religious poetry and was one of the metaphysical poets. Some of his poems became hymns such as "King of Glory, King of Peace" "Let All the World in Every Corner Sing" and "Teach me, my God and King" . Near the end of his life he gathered all his poems together as The Temple. This is the book that has William Lucy’s bookplate in it.
It is bound with Harvey's The synagogue (1667)
