The 1675 edition od De Rerum Natura has its original calfskin binding, cracking down the seams from when the book was being opened for reading. There is no title on the spine and the spine is torn revealing the gatherings which were then sewn together with four raised cords. The font cover is badly worn, or a remarkable survival depending how you view it. The corners have embossed fleurons with tooled lines down the sides. The leather has been rolled over the edge of the page and a rather nice pattern embossed into it. Some colouring is still visible in the embossing and the edges of the pages has a fine red speckling. This was a high-class production.
